What does the STEAM Team have to offer?
The STEAM team is the only team teaching group on campus. All 6th grade students on the team will have the same academic teachers as other STEAM students.
Teachers on the team mentor students both academically and emotionally.
STEAM teachers work together (across subjects) to teach high level lessons.
The STEAM Team participates in academic field trips. Past and future field trips include Physics Day at Busch Gardens, MacDill Air Force Base STEAM Day and Kennedy Space Center. Future field trips may include the Florida Aquarium, the Astronaut Hall of Fame's Space Explorer's Adventure and the Museum of Science and Industry. *Given current circumstances, there may not be any field trips for 2020-2021.
Past on campus activities include presentations by local businesses in the STEAM fields and team work activities and competitions to highlight student skills (STEAM Olympics!).
The STEAM program encourages students to participate in activities geared towards their interests such as Science Fair, Geography Bee, MathCounts, History Bee, Science Bee, TSA, FCCLA, FBLA, News Crew, and Yearbook.
STEAM Teachers work together to inculcate students with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed at the highest academic levels. All courses in the sixth grade are advanced; in fact, the only way that students may take advanced science or social studies is to be on the team. The advanced coursework prepares students for success in high school credit classes in the 7th grade (Algebra I Honors) and the 8th grade (Geometry I Honors, English I Honors, Integrated Science Honors and Digital Information Technology). They, in turn, prepare students for the A.P. and I.B. programs in high school.
